This standard describes certain criteria for the design, manufacturing, testing, care, and use of aboveground/onground residential (Type O) non-diving swimming pools and their components. These swimming pools are defined as pools with a shallow area water depth and include portable pools with flexible/non-rigid or rigid side walls that can be disassembled for storage or relocation.
Changes since the previous revision of this standard include the following:
• General – The language of the standard has been updated to be consistent with the other PHTA standards.
• Section 6.4 – A new requirement was added for pools with a minimum overall wall height equal to or greater than 48 in. (1219 mm), when the pool is filled, any reinforcing strap or belt on the exterior of the pool with an upper surface or edge 45 in. (1143 mm) or less from the top edge of the pool wall, shall be designed so that it shall not provide a foothold.
• Section 7.2.3 – Detailed information regarding Barriers was added to correspond with Barrier requirements in the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC).
• And more.
This is a fundamental industry standard, especially for manufacturers, producers, and installers of aboveground/onground residential swimming pools, as well as for consumers who wish to enjoy this type of pool.
